Country music artist Walker Hayes and his wife, Laney, shared a heartbreaking update on Thursday night concering the latter’s pregnancy.
In a statement shared on Instagram and Twitter, the musician wrote that he and Laney have lost their seventh child, explaining that she died just days prior to her due date.
“It is with great sadness that Laney and I share with you the news that our sweet Oakleigh Klover Hayes was born this morning at the hospital and now is safely in heaven,” Hayes posted, adding:
“Thank you for honoring our privacy as we grieve.”
The couple are parents to six other children, three sons and three daughters, ranging in age from two through 11.
Concluded this statement:
“Walker has canceled his immediate upcoming appearances to be home with Beville and their children.
“We ask that everyone respectfully give them their privacy in this difficult time.”
The medical reason behind this awful tragedy is unknown at this time, but also unimportant in the grand scheme of things.
Hayes, who is probably best known for his hit “You Broke Up With Me,” revealed in November that he and Laney were expecting their seventh child.
He told Taste of Country at the time that his other kids were “losing their minds” with excitement and that his oldest, Leila “cried because she was so happy about having a new brother or sister.”
In April, a very pregnant Lacey walked alongside her husband at the American Country Music Awards.
Then, on Mother’s Day, Walker shared a precious and cute tribute to his wife on social media, writing simply:
I mean we only have 6 kids…it’s not like she really does that much… Happy Mother’s Day Laney.
Hayes had been scheduled to perform on Wednesday night at the CMT Awards, with fans wondering why he failed to do so after the show aired.
This was prior to them learning the valid and terrible reason behind his absence, of course.
Walker and Laney, meanwhile, were high school sweethearts.
They’ve been together since junior year, which is legitimately incredible and awe-inspiring and which makes this news all the more upsetting somehow.
“Our line of communication has been a wide open highway since the moment I met her,” the singer gushed to Rare Country in February, adding this winter:
“We can talk for hours all the time. I feel like we tell each other everything, and that’s who you want to be with for the rest of you life.
We send our condolences to Walker, Laney and their family members during this difficult time.
