Prince Harry never had to leave the royal family to marry Meghan Markle, contrary to a report from a year ago. This time last year, Gossip Cop busted a tabloid for an entirely false cover story that claimed Prince Harry was giving up his title. Now itâs abundantly clear our debunking was correct.
The OK! cover released on July 5, 2017 declared, âHarry Leaving The Royal Family For Love!â According to the untrue article, Prince Harry was going to be âforced to relinquish his crown for the woman of his dreamsâ because Queen Elizabeth ârejected his bid to marryâ Markle. An alleged âpalâ was quoted by the magazine as saying, âHarry is now faced with the choice between his country and the woman he loves, and, right now, England is on the losing side.â
The outlet and the supposed friend went on to assert Prince Harry was on the âprecipiceâ of âbid[ding] the monarchy farewell.â At the time, Gossip Cop pointed out that this completely contradicted a prior cover story from the publication, in which it was claimed the palace had âconfirmedâ a âroyal weddingâ was in the works for Harry and Markle with the queenâs approval. Of course, Kensington Palace had never actually âconfirmedâ anything, which is why the tabloid was now trying to dupe readers with this tale about Prince Harry abandoning the monarchy in order to be with the actress.
But this narrative was just as untrue as the wedding one. When Gossip Cop spoke with a contact at Kensington Palace, who wasnât authorized to comment on the record, we were assured these claims about the queen preventing Prince Harry from marrying Markle were âpure rubbish.â And time has since shown our reporting was entirely correct.
When Prince Harry and Markle became engaged a few months later in November, Queen Elizabeth was âdelighted,â Buckingham Palace said. Then in March, the queen gave her official consent for Prince Harry and Markle to be married, and in May, the Instrument of Consent was formally released by the royal family. Only days later, Markle was officially welcomed into the family with Queen Elizabeth in attendance at the royal wedding.
Since then, Prince Harry and Markle, who were given the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex upon their nuptials, have participated in a handful of royal engagements. Thatâs even included the former âSuitsâ star going on a day trip with the queen. Quite evidently, Queen Elizabeth never ârejectedâ their âbid to marry,â and Prince Harry never left the royal family, just as Gossip Cop rightly reported 365 days ago.
