Prince Harry is said to have shared a âtearfulâ phone call with his ex girlfriend Chelsy Davy in the lead-up to the Royal Wedding.
Davy, 32, was Harryâs first serious girlfriend, and was invited to St Georgeâs Chapel in Windsor Castle when the 33-year-old married actress Meghan Markle on May 19.
According toVanity Fair, the pair – who dated on and off for seven years – shared a âfinal callâ ahead of the event, with emotions running high.
“It was a parting call in which they both acknowledged Harry was moving on,” a source tells royal correspondent Katie Nicholl.
“Chelsy was quite emotional about it all, she was in tears and almost didnât go to the wedding.”
The lawyer-turned-jewellery designer wasnât the only one of the Duke of Sussexâs former flames to receive an invitation to his wedding and the afternoon reception that followed.Â
Actress Cressida Bonas, who dated Harry for around two years, was also among the 600 guests in attendance.
However, neither of them made the guest list for the second, more intimate reception hosted by Prince Charles at Frogmore House on the evening of May 19.
Vanity Fairâs source claims Davy mentioned this snub in her phone conversation with Harry.
“In the end, she went [to the wedding] and promised Harry she wouldnât try and gatecrash the party,â they add.
During the Royal Wedding broadcast, there was plenty of discussion on social media regarding Harryâs decision to invite his former girlfriends to his wedding, with many labelling the move unusual.
However, he has maintained a friendly relationship with Davy since they broke up in 2011.Â
Vanity Fair previously reported she even offered to make Markle, 36, a one-off piece of jewellery as a wedding gift – an offer that was âpolitely turned downâ.
The prince first met Davy when she was at boarding school in the UK, and they got together properly in Cape Town during Harryâs gap year in 2010.Â
The Zimbabwean national regularly mingled with her royal beauâs family members, attending Prince Charlesâ 60th birthday and meeting the Queen at a society wedding.
Following her split from Harry – which prompted her to return to South Africa – she was even invited to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.
In an interview with The Times in 2016, Chelsy described the public attention that had engulfed their relationship as âcrazy and scary and uncomfortableâ.
âI couldnât cope,” she admitted.
“I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible.”
