Kourtney Kardashian and Younes Bendjima did not get married in Rome, but that’s not what a certain tabloid is leading fans to believe. Rather than doing a real news story about the couple’s trip to Italy, a single photo is being used to sell fake news. Allow Gossip Cop to explain what’s going on.

Kardashian and Bendjima went to Rome this week, a vacation they’ve each been documenting on social media. Both the reality star and the model have been sharing photos as they sightsee. During one outing, they happened to come across a bride and groom. As seen on an Instagram account tracking Kardashian’s Snapchat posts and Instagram Stories, the photo shows the unidentified couple standing on a cobblestone street in front of the Castel Sant’Angelo. Though the “KUWTK” star did not say who the newlyweds are, it’s apparent by just looking at the picture that the bride is not Kardashian and the groom is not Bendjima.

Yet OK! is asking in a headline on its website, “Wait A Sec… Did Kourtney Kardashian And Younes Bendjima Just Get Married In Rome?” The accompanying story begins, “WHOA! Did Kourtney Kardashian and Younes Bendjima just get married during their vacation in Rome? The mother-of-three just posted a major wedding photo on her Instagram stories Tuesday.” The magazine details how the pair have been seen out together in the Italian city, before again asking, “Did this vacation also include them getting MARRIED?”

Continues the outlet, “Kourtney has been sharing photos from her trip all over social media, which included a major wedding snap that was a ‘blink and you miss it’ kind of thing on her Instagram stories.” It’s only three-quarters of the way down the page that the publication finally acknowledges that Kardashian and Bendjima did not get married, and that the snapshot is “from another couple’s wedding.” So then the tabloid switches from the possibility of Kardashian and Bendjima currently being married to instead wondering, “Is this something that could happen for the two in the near future?”

The magazine points out that they’ve been “spotted all over the world together,” and questions, “So what’s next for these two?” Readers are even asked, “Do you think wedding bells are in the future for Kourtney and Younes?” Of course, the answers to these questions aren’t provided. It’s readily apparent that the outlet’s goal wasn’t to deliver legitimate news. It was to mislead fans and dupe them into clicking on a deceptive story.

To be fair, Gossip Cop does sometimes frame headlines as questions. But we also typically provide the answers to those questions right in our first paragraph. In contrast, OK! took a photo that is very clearly not Kardashian and Bendjima and crafted a fake narrative around it, suggesting three times separate times that they were married. Then the publication concluded its article with open-ended questions, leaving readers with very little actual information.

Compare that to People’s straightforward story: The reputable magazine titled its own piece, “Kourtney Kardashian and Boyfriend Younes Bendjima Jet to Rome for Romantic Italian Vacation,” and wrote in the text that she “shared photos of a gorgeous sunset setting off the architecture of the Castel Sant’Angelo, and even played wedding photographer, snapping a just-married couple outside the landmark.” This is a real news story with clear reporting.

Significantly, the fake news take is coming from the same tabloid that more than a year ago falsely accused Kardashian and Scott Disick of faking their split. Gossip Cop busted that story when it came out, and time has proven that their breakup was very much for real. Of course, that allegation isn’t mentioned in this misleading article about marrying Bendjima. Apparently, OK! doesn’t count honesty and truth-telling as among its top priorities.
