Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are not married nor are they even engaged, despite a report published one year ago today that furnished fake details about the baseball playerâs supposed proposal and the actressâs alleged over-the-top wedding plans. At the time, Gossip Cop shot down the story with facts and on the record comments. Now, exactly 365 days later, it should be clear that we were 100 percent right and the In Touch story was completely untrue.
On June 28, 2017, the tabloid maintained Lopez and Rodriguez got engaged in France while on vacation in Paris. A so-called âsourceâ was quoted as saying that after Rodriguez got down on bended knee and proposed, Lopez âburst into tears and said âYes!ââ Glaringly then and still now, the magazine had no specifics about the date he supposedly popped with question on, whether or not he presented her with a diamond ring, or where in Paris he allegedly asks Lopez to marry him. Was it on the top of the Eiffel Tower or on one of the City of Lightsâ romantic bridges? And curiously, the publication never explained how it was the only outlet to have this information.
From there, the publication went into full tabloid mode, declaring their âfairy taleâ wedding would cost approximately $3 million. After the same unnamed âsourceâ stated, âJennifer doesnât care that this is her fourth marriage,â the purported insider asserted that Lopez wanted to make her impending wedding an âunforgettable day, no matter how much it costs.â According to the magazine, the nuptials were to take place in Franceâs Palace of Versailles, all their guests were to be âflown into Paris for a weekend of celebrations,â the food and alcohol would cost at least half a million dollars, and after the ceremony, everyone would âbe treated to a $150,000 fireworks display.â
But the only thing that exploded was the tabloidâs story. In the 12 months since Gossip Cop called out the publication for its fictitious report, the couple very obviously did not get married or even engaged. Actually, Lopez herself has addressed the phony rumors. In fact, just a little more than two weeks ago during Lopezâs appearance on âGood Morning America,â contrary to the magazineâs claim that âJennifer doesnât care that this is her fourth marriage,â the singer-actress said, âWe have to take our time.â She further noted, âIâve made plenty of mistakes in my past. Weâre mature now, weâre grownups, and weâre gonna take our time and weâre going to do things at our own pace.â
In a March cover story for Harperâs Bazaar, Lopez also made clear in her interview, âI do believe in marriage. And I would love to grow old with somebody in a committed relationship. But Iâm not forcing anything right now.â However, talk of an engagement grew louder after the April release of her song, âEl Anillo,â which translates into English as âThe Ring.â
The lyrics include the lines, âYouâve given me so much that Iâve been thinking⊠When will I get the ring?â But Lopez explained on Beats 1 that while the single is about her and Rodriguezâs romance, itâs also about âeverything thatâs going on with womenâ these days. As for an imminent engagement, Lopez reiterated, âWeâre good right now. Iâm not trying to rush into anything, Iâve done that before, to no avail.â
One year ago today, a mutual friend of Gossip Cop and the singer-actress assured us Lopez and Rodriguez had no wedding plans nor were engaged. Meanwhile, his rep laughed off the report, too. And the claim remains a joke.
It seems In Touch either manufactures its Lopez/Rodriguez stories or has terrible sources. In February, Gossip Cop busted the same outlet when it wrongly contended Lopez was âquestioning her futureâ with Rodriguez. The tabloid even maintained they were on âthe verge of flaming out.â But as noted above, the superstar has repeatedly said she and the former Yankees player are âgoodâ and in love. Gossip Cop will continue to bust stories about the famous couple, and we will rely on our impeccable insider, as well as their own words, instead of tabloids that are out of touch.
