Over the last week and a half, there have been a number of stories about Jennifer Aniston wearing an engagement ring and marrying Brad Pitt again. The bogus rumors have spread from tabloid to tabloid, even though they are all 100 percent false. Below, Gossip Cop rounds them all up and separates fact from fiction.

FICTION: Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were “just married” again, according to In Touch.
FACT: The tabloid published a cover story that initially duped readers into thinking the exes had officially remarried “on their 18th wedding anniversary.” Inside the issue, the premise was slightly altered to claim they had a “commitment ceremony” at Pitt’s L.A. home “ahead of their original wedding anniversary on July 29.” Regardless of the phrasing, it was all a fabrication. Aside from the fact that he and Aniston haven’t reconciled, as Gossip Cop has rightly reported all year long, she hasn’t even been in Los Angeles in weeks due to production on Netflix’s Murder Mystery. Aniston’s spokesperson further told us the report was all “made up,” while Pitt’s rep branded it “false” and “totally ridiculous.”

FICTION: Jennifer Aniston is wearing an engagement ring from Brad Pitt, according to New Idea.
FACT: After Aniston was photographed with a ring on her wedding finger, the magazine claimed it was evidence she and Pitt had tied the knot again. The narrative was largely based on the aforementioned In Touch tale, and the bauble was deemed a “wedding ring” in the article after it was called an “engagement ring” in the headline. On top of being inconsistent, the outlet was just plain wrong as the jewelry had nothing to do with Pitt at all. As numerous publications rightly reported when the snapshots emerged, Aniston was wearing the ring for the filming for Murder Mystery.

FICTION: Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary by getting married again, according to the International Business Times.
FACT: This misleading story both spread the debunked marriage claim and tried to refute it. The outlet began by noting that there were “allegations that the former couple secretly got married after parting ways from their partners,” and quoted from the In Touch cover story. It wasn’t until the eighth paragraph that the publication acknowledged the claims were untrue, citing Gossip Cop. Yet the article then made it seem like the misinformation came from us. Other phony contentions about the exes were thrown in as well, before it was declared, “The reunion of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston is not happening despite claims.” Confused? So were we. By jumbling falsehoods with truths, this piece ultimately amounted to fake news.

FICTION: Jennifer Aniston fled to Italy due to the Brad Pitt reunion rumors, according to Celebrity Insider.
FACT: The site used the In Touch cover story and new photos of Aniston overseas to manufacture a storyline about the actress traveling to “escape the rumors” about getting back together with Pitt. What was the proof her trip was connected to her ex-husband? The blog had none. And, as Gossip Cop explained, the real reason Aniston was in Italy was to for the production of Murder Mystery, which had wrapped up in Montreal and was now continuing with the European portion of the film shoot. At the end of this misguided post, the website asserted, “Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt have not commented on the reconciliation rumors.” But as noted above, both their individual reps had already shot down such rumors.

FICTION: Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were married again in secret, according to Woman’s Day Australia.
FACT: Showcasing one of the photos of Aniston with the fake wedding ring on her finger, the tabloid quoted a so-called “insider” as saying, “There’s mounting talk Jen and Brad may have gotten hitched in secret and this is her wedding ring… Word is she and Brad are very much in love again, and they decided to do something utterly romantic and elope.” For someone supposedly on the “inside,” this untraceable source could only offer “talk” and what the “word is,” instead of actual confirmation that the former couple had remarried. In contrast, Gossip Cop highlighted a slew of clear falsities, and also pointed to an E! Online story about Aniston moving on from Justin Theroux that specifically stressed she has not “rekindled” anything with Pitt.

FICTION: Brad Pitt proposed to Jennifer Aniston again, according to OK! Australia.
FACT: This was yet another report based on the ring photos. The magazine expressed skepticism that it was a prop for her film, “especially given that it comes hot on the heels of reports that the pair held a commitment ceremony in the backyard of the World War Z star’s LA home.” Yes, this one incorporated the bogus In Touch cover story, too, even though by this point, those marriage allegations had been busted a full week prior. Of course, the ring claims were old by now, too, and easily disproven. Gossip Cop dug up Netflix’s press release for Murder Mystery, in which it explicitly states that Aniston’s character is married, hence why she’d be photographed wearing a ring.

These stories are examples of what happens when tabloids copy one another, even when the record has already been corrected with transparent evidence. The gossip media often ignores the readily available truth for the sake of selling readers a fantasy. One of the negative effects of this is that fans sometime start to think the claims are accurate when they’re repeated in multiple places. But repetition should not be confused for corroboration. None of the claims made by these separate publications were ever verified. On the contrary, as demonstrated here, they were all debunked… over and over. And as long as magazines keep printing fiction, Gossip Cop will keep pointing out the facts.
