PRINCE William and Kate Middleton have named their third baby and the world is celebrating!
The palace informed us that the tiny tot would be called Prince Louis Arthur Charles. But do YOU know how to pronounce his name?
There is some confusion over how to say the baby’s new name… but we are here to clear it up.
The name is actually pronounced Loo-ee.
Though some people have thought it’s said Loo-is like the TV show Lewis – this is not the case.
As with the classic French pronunciation – you don’t pronounce the “s” on the end of the word.
There are various origins for the name Louis, including English, French and German.
The name means “famous warrior” and it was given to no less than 19 kings of France.
Nineteen previous French Kings have been named Louis running from Louis I (the Pious) through to Louis XIX (or 19th to you and me).
Both Spain and Portugal have also had a King Louis while Monaco has enjoyed the reign of both a Louis I and II.
Prince William also has Louis as one of his middle names:Â Â Prince William Arthur Philip Louis.
But perhaps most famously of all is the swinging King Louis from the Jungle Book, the royal orangutan who was desperate for man’s secret to fire – what a cheeky scamp he was.
And what about fictional Prince Louis from Gossip Girl?
The French royal who married Blair Waldorf didn’t turn out to be a Prince Charming but we’re sure this latest Louis will be much better behaved.
