President Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen is not taking over as new host of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” despite a ridiculous report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this absurd rumor. Cohen himself tells us it’s not true.
According to the website Naughty Gossip, the president’s attorney has been pitching a revival of the NBC reality series, in which he’d take on the boss’s role. A so-called “source” tells the blog, “Michael is loving the new spotlight and thinks this is the time to start his own TV career. He thinks he would be a great replacement for Donald and knows the show made Donald a star.” The outlet’s seemingly nonexistent tipster concludes, “Now it is Michael’s time to shine.”
The site’s article is based on information from an anonymous and untraceable “insider,” but Gossip Cop checked in with Cohen himself to get to the bottom of these claims. The attorney exclusively tells us the story is “complete nonsense,” and he never pitched a reboot of “The Celebrity Apprentice” starring himself.
It’s also worth noting, NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said last year that the network has “no plans” for another season of “The Apprentice,” adding, “I don’t think you will see it back anytime soon.” The executive even went as far as to say, “I don’t know when we would start thinking about it again.”
In January 2017, Arnold Schwarzenegger took over for Trump as host of “The New Celebrity Apprentice,” but the show was met with backlash and poor ratings. The season ended on a low note with the finale attracting the least viewers in the show’s history. Considering the recent reboot was a total bust, it’s highly unlikely NBC would want to revive the show even if Cohen were campaigning for it, which he isn’t.
Additionally, Naughty Gossip doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to accurately reporting about a Trump staffer’s supposed reality TV plans. Last year, Gossip Cop called out the blog for wrongly reporting that former White House aide Omarosa Manigault was joining “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” The president’s former adviser wound up as a cast member on “Celebrity Big Brother” instead.
Also, this isn’t the first time we’ve had to shoot down a made-up story about a high-profile figure taking over “The Celebrity Apprentice.” Shortly after Schwarzenegger announced he wouldn’t be returning as host last year, Gossip Cop debunked a phony tabloid story claiming Caitlyn Jenner was taking the reigns. Obviously, that didn’t happen, and Cohen won’t be sitting in the boardroom either.
