In recent times, we saw that China has suddenly become a huge market for the Bollywood films. While earlier, makers used to emphasise on the gulf and North American market for their films, nowadays every director wishes to take his film in the Chinese market and make money. The credit for all this goes to Mr Perfectionist and versatile actor, Aamir Khan, because of whom, we realized what a big and important market China is. Interestingly, there are Bollywood films, that have earned twice and thrice more than their domestic collection at the Chinese box office. So, let’s check out the films which set the box office on fire in China…



While films like Dhoom 3 and PK had done good business in China, it was Dangal, which turned out to be a trendsetter for Bollywood films. The film raked in Rs 387.39 crore in India to become the highest grosser of all time but it surprised everyone with its magical box office run in China due to which it earned unbelievable Rs 1235.93 crore. In fact, the fans of China had made a tribute video for Aamir Khan, where they performed on Dhaakad.

Secret Superstar


Due to Dangal’s goodwill and the super-stardom of Aamir Khan, Secret Superstar opened to a thunderous response at the Chinese box office. The musical drama, which raked in just Rs 63.40 crore in India, went on to rake in Rs 759.92 crore at the Chinese box office.

Hindi Medium


Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar-starrer Hindi Medium turned out to be a huge sleeper hit last year in the domestic circuit. But the Chinese collections were truly an eye-opening one. With its tremendous business in China, Hindi Medium showed that not stars but content attracts the audience. While in India, it had collected Rs 69.59 crore in its theatrical run, in China the education drama has collected Rs 205.21 crore.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan


2015’s biggest blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan released after three years in China. Interestingly, out of the list, it is the only which has collected less in China compared to its domestic collections. In India, it had earned Rs 320.34 crore, on the other hand, it missed the Rs 300 crore mark in China and collected Rs 295.32 crore.
