Amy Schumer is not pushing Jennifer Lawrence to marry her new boyfriend, Cooke Maroney, despite a made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the claim. A rep for Lawrence tells us it’s simply untrue.
In February, Schumer married chef Chris Fischer after only a few months of dating, and according to OK!, the comedic actress wants Lawrence to do the same with her boyfriend of less than three months. “Amy knows Jen’s crazy about Cooke and thinks she should marry him,” a supposed source tells the magazine. The questionable insider goes on to say that Lawrence is hesitant to take such a major leap, but “Amy’s telling Jen to stop overthinking things and just do it.”
The outlet is basing this all on information from an anonymous and seemingly nonexistent “insider,” but Gossip Cop checked in with Lawrence’s spokesperson, who’s qualified to speak on her behalf. The actress’s rep dismissed the article as nonsense. The tabloids have a habit of hiding behind unnamed “sources” who purport to know the intimate details of a celebrity’s personal life, but there’s rarely evidence to back up these premises.
It’s possible this phony article was concocted because Schumer has given her friend relationship advice in the past. Lawrence recently revealed that Schumer comforted her after she split from Darren Aronofsky. However, Schumer helping her friend get over an ex doesn’t mean she’s now urging her to marry someone she’s only known for a few months.
Over the years, Gossip Cop has had to correct many bogus stories surrounding Lawrence and Schumer’s friendship. Back in 2016, we called out OK!’s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for wrongly reporting that the two were no longer pals because Schumer revealed their private texts in an interview. Shortly before that, we debunked the magazine’s story alleging that Lawrence’s friends were urging her to cut ties with Schumer because they felt the stand-up comic was a “bad influence.” There have been several more articles about the actresses being at odds, but it’s clear they’re close friends to this day.
Meanwhile, OK! has proven in the past that it doesn’t have reliable sources close to Schumer. Last year, Gossip Cop busted the outlet for falsely claiming that Schumer was dating John Mayer. Time has shown that the two were never a couple. Shortly after Gossip Cop debunked the article, Schumer started dating Fischer. The tabloid clearly has little insight into the comedienne’s personal life, and that includes her friendship with Lawrence.
