Around 10 years ago, Disney Channel stars Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato were blossoming into super stars, and the two happened to also be best friends from their days on child program Barney and Friends. They co-starred in Disney Channel Original Movie, “Princess Protection Program,” and made cute YouTube vlogs as well. The two were inseparable.
But, as both of their celebrity rose, they each made separate friends. Gomez became closer with Taylor Swift, while Lovato got tight with fellow Disney princess Miley Cyrus.
In a video in 2010, a fan asked Lovato how Selena was doing. Lovato replied, “Ask Taylor,” which can be safely-assumed to be Swift.
After Lovato admitted herself into rehab in 2011, she was vocal that Gomez was a source of support during that time. A few years later, in 2014, Lovato unfollowed Gomez on Instagram, and was asked about it on talk show “Watch What Happens Live.” On the show, Lovato said, “I think it’s just one of those things where people change and people grow apart.”
But, in 2017, when Lovato’s documentary “Simply Complicated” came out, Gomez showed support for her former (?) friend. She commented on Lovato’s Instagram post, saying, “This was beautiful. I’m so happy for you. You always continue to be bold and real. I wish more people were like you. Love you.”
Lovato responded, “Thank you so much, this means the world to me and more. Love you too.”
